Montesierra-Rocal wine originates from organic vineyards which belong to a cooperative bound to the Bodega Pirineos that groups more than 200 small vine-growers together. Most of the plots are smaller than 2 hectares and are situated in a mosaic of cereal crops, almond orchards, olive fields and holms oak woods, all providing a very diverse and rich habitat, far from the huge monoculture vineyards that characterize other areas. Somontano is a large region with a wide variety of habitats, from the mountain zones of the North, where it is possible to catch a glimpse of the Bearded vulture or the Alpine accentor, to the Steppes in the South, where live the Pin-tailed Sandgrouse, the Little Bustard and the Lester Kestrel. A proportion of the proceeds gained from this wine production go to support studies that propose wise management practices that will encourage the positive impact of the vineyard on birds and minimise the negative impacts.
